Coombeshead Academy GCSE Results 2022

25th August 2022

Our congratulations go out to our Year 11 students who received their GCSE results today. Our students have studied for these qualifications for three years throughout the disturbance of the of the pandemic. Despite months of lost study and forced periods of isolation these students bravely fought on and sat formal examinations this summer. They have dealt with the situation stoically and with resilience, conducting themselves in an exemplary fashion throughout the exam period.

It is with the greatest pleasure that we have been able to see this group of students achieve their true potential and to be able to help them with the next stage of their life. We look forward to working with a large section of the cohort in our Sixth Form.

We would like to mention a few key students for their notable success.

  • Our highest performing student is Emily B with an amazing set of results which includes seven grade 9s, one Distinction*and an 8. Well done Emily; we’re so proud of you.
  • The student making the most progress across her time at Coombeshead Academy is Sophie C with 2 x grade 9s, 3 x grade 8s, 1 grade 7 and 1 grade 6. Amazing work Sophie – well done on all your hard work.
  • Other higher performers include Toni C, Mollie A, Beth T, Joanna R, Lillian B, Adam M, Sam A, Lennon L
  • Emily B, Issy J, Beth T, Joanna R, Madison M Sam A, Chloe D, Toni C and Mollie A are all noted for their outstanding progress from Key 2 (Year 6) to the end of Key Stage 4 (Year 11). These exceptional students have made the most progress during the 5-year journey of secondary school and we cannot be prouder of their academic success.

Finally, I would like to thank our wonderful parents and carers who have done such an outstanding job ensuring that their children are able to leave school with the life chances needed to be successful. Thank you for all your support during home schooling. I would also like to thank the dedicated, hard working and caring team of staff who have worked tirelessly to support the young people.

Well done to all our students.

Executive Headteacher

Nb: As you will be aware the government have been working to bring grades back into line with the 2019 national GCSE results after two years of Teacher Assessed Grades. Summer 2022 will be a transition year to reflect that we are in a pandemic recovery period. There will be more generous grading of exams this year compared to a normal exam year. In 2023 results will return to be in line with those in pre-pandemic years.

What does this mean for summer 2022? As we move back to pre-pandemic standards, overall results will be lower than in 2021 when teacher-assessed grades were used, but higher than in 2019 when summer exams were last held. The approach exam boards take to grading will reflect a midpoint between summer 2019 and 2021. Very few schools or colleges, if any, will get higher results than in 2021.
