Curriculum Intent
The Creative Arts team offer opportunities for every individual to develop their creativity – the act of turning new ideas and concepts into reality. This enables you to perceive the world in new and creative ways; find hidden patterns, make and build connections that are not obvious and to generate productive solutions. We do this through a wide breadth of skills, knowledge, perseverance and dedication in a variety of subject areas that help build the full potential of the individual. We aim to develop skilful, respectful young people who are capable of working in a collaborative environment, across a variety of disciplines, which will serve them in their life as successful, inquisitive and intuitive human beings, ready for any challenge.
Threshold Concepts
Threshold Concepts are a series of statements and ideas that allow you to view, question and experience the world through the eyes of an artist and creative maker. Each project in Years 7, 8 and 9 is based around one of these statements and gives you a deeper understanding to help you broaden your creative ideas and thinking. As you move into GCSE and choose your Creative specialism – Art & Design, Photography, Textiles or 3D Design you can use these ideas to expand your skills, knowledge and creative practice to a higher level of sophistication. At Post 16 you can choose to study a mixture of Art, Craft & Design, Photography, Textiles and Graphics to develop your creativity in preparation for further education and work in the Creative Industries.
