Year 8 Theatre in Education Primary Touring Show
1st July 2022Charlotte Holmes: Future Detective
The year 8 Coombeshead Academy Theatre in Education company toured “Charlotte Holmes: Future Detective” written by Richard James around Primary schools. We visited Highweek, Asburton, Haytor View, Rydon, Ipplepen, Bovey Tracy, St Joseph’s, Wolborough and Bearne’s primary schools from Monday 20th to Friday 24th June. The students also performed to friends and family at Coombeshead Acadmey.
Charlotte Holmes: Future Detective is set in the 23rd Century where we meet Charlotte, a budding detective eager to solve the case of Van Gogh’s missing Sunflowers portrait with the help of her new Robot assistance, Watson. However, there is a twist in the plot and Charlotte ends up discovering the truth, which is far closer to home than she thought it might.
The students enjoyed playing the range of characters from Detectives to a Robot. ‘I played the role of Charlotte in the show Charlotte Holmes - Future Detective. I highly appreciated the opportunity to be one of the main roles and enjoyed the team effort put into rehearsals, in order to make this production the best it can be! This has definitely been a highlight of my time here at Coombeshead.’ Kate Sampson.

I have enjoyed every second of the time we have been rehearsing and performing the show, but my favourite parts are seeing the children's reactions and hearing their contributions when we visit their schools and I have also loved wearing my amazing and one-of-a-kind costume!! Eva Carus
The performance contained an interactive detective dance routine, which 3 primary schools students joined the cast on stage for the majority of the performances, highlighting the talent of these primary schools’ students. We finally concluded the performance with an uplifting song and dance.
The Year 8 Coombeshead students have been extremely committed, bringing enthusiasm and energy to the making a very successful performance. They produced a very polished performance, which was of an excellent standard and one of which they should be very proud!

I played the role of narrator and a guard. I think this experience was unforgettable, and I am very grateful of the opportunities and working with the rest of the cast as a team and making new friends. My favourite part of the show was probably when Charlotte and Watson were searching for the missing painting as it still included many characters while not making the plot confusing, the kids reactions were also funny and heart-warming . Watching the show come together throughout rehearsals and seeing the audience’s reactions when performing it on stage. This was definitely worth the hard work and will always be thankful towards Miss Hughes for allowing me to be a part of this. It was definitely the highlight of my year.
