Sister Act
18th July 2022Please see review from Sister Act last week -
I’d like to congratulate the entire cast and crew of Sister Act at Coombeshead Academy on an absolutely wonderful production. This is a very difficult show to produce for a whole variety of reasons but has been executed with tremendous effect.
Alan Menken takes no prisoners with the musical score, and this is acknowledged as one of the more difficult scores to learn and execute but the cast delivered in spades with rich, deep, and powerful solos, group numbers and whole company.
The acting was extremely strong and, once again, highlights the depth of talent that resides within Newton Abbot. There were moments of immense comedy, heartfelt tenderness, and believable aggression. It was easy to forget that this was a school performance and not an adult led one.
The show was well costumed and bright and added to the richness of the show. The lighting was subtle and appropriate and complemented the minimalist set well.
Having the band on stage was a lovely touch and brought their excellent musicality to the fore, allowing the audience to appreciate the hard work they have put in. It’s always lovely to see both teachers and students working in harmony.
If you haven’t grabbed a ticket for the final show then don’t delay, it’s not to be missed and if you miss it, you’ll certainly miss out.
Bravo
